World Description:
Long before anyone can remember, before recorded history starts, there was one world. The world was chaotic and dangerous, full of too many elements and too many creatures. The people were extremely diverse, but one trait linked them all: each and every one of them was born with a Nature. These Natures vary in strength and number. There are a few of which only one person may have at a time. There are more still, weaker ones that many share.
Three powerful possessors of singular Natures came together, known only now as the Separator, the Tetherer, and the Destroyer. They saw the world was too dangerous to continue to exist as one. The Separator separated the worlds into many, not into pieces but into new wholes; the Tetherer tied them together so they would not drift apart and remain linked; and the Destroyer destroyed what worlds proved too dangerous to continue to exist. Even with the Destroyer, the worlds remained countless. These three powerful beings came together in one world and continued their work until their deaths.
Only one world has a record of this time. And that is the Nexus, where Natures are revered and followed religiously. Those with powerful Natures, the same as those of the three powerful beings, are even revered as gods. New Tetherers, Separators, and Destroyers are found among the countless worlds and instated whenever the old ones die.
The worlds vary wildly from one another, most completely unaware of the existence of Natures at all. One world may be completely peaceful and otherwise just like ours; another may be one out of high fantasy with monsters scattering the lands. Avisheh's world was somewhere between the two.
Avisheh's world does represent almost all major biomes of our world, but is majority arid, desert and mediterranean in climate. Avisheh's city of origin, Tirazis, is known for its beautiful architecture and, especially, its plethora of beautiful public gardens that contrast with the large desert not too far off from the city's southern edge. This world's level of technology is analogous to the real world mid-1700s.
What makes Avisheh's world unique to others, however, is the existence of parasites. These parasites may have the same name as organisms, but they are not separate creatures; they are something a person is born with. They are called parasites and thought of as generally disgusting, and a person with a parasite is shunned by society as disgusting and impure. Parasites manifest as extensions of the body, using existing body parts to spiral off of and can be controlled just like any body part with some practice. Most people attempt to hide their parasites, but cutting them off only causes them to grow back larger. They are generally viewed as useless, but there is an underground movement aiming to train those with parasites to use them to their advantage. However, the vast majority hide them from society and never use them.
However, Avisheh no longer lives in this world. She's been moved to the Nexus, which is more a place out of science fiction or cyberpunk -- the theme is stark black brutalism and bright lights, with the streets laid out in a circular formation. Here, popular thought is far more left than what Avisheh had grown used to in her younger years, with the idea being acceptance for all. However, this is not quite true to life.
Refugees from other worlds are given temporary lodgings in order to counteract rising homelessness rates, but have their Natures scanned upon entry. The perceived quality of their Nature directly correlates with the quality of life they are to expect, as the religion of Natures expect everyone to worship the three Gods and live according to their Natures. Technology here is near future-esque, which gave Avisheh quite the learning curve after arrival.
History:
Avisheh was born in Tirazis to two parents who were fully prepared for their little baby to have a parasite, so when their child was born with parasitic tendrils extending from both legs, they counted their blessings that he was healthy and a fast learner.
They were less prepared to find what they thought was their son trying on ill-fitting dresses she'd stolen from corner markets.
Long before she ever changed her name to Avisheh, she was left behind at the Tirazis gardens, where she fell in with other children and adults alike who, most of them with parasites, lived on the streets of the beautiful city. Avisheh was quickly adopted by a movement of people with parasites who took pride in that fact, calling themselves the Parasitized and caring for one another. The Parasitized volunteered much of their time to caring for the less fortunate of their ranks such as those that were homeless. They looked for any opportunity to further their people in the society of Tirazis.
Unfortunately, this extended to experimentation with parasites. Avisheh brought to their attention the existence of a young girl who had Separated -- unbeknownst to anyone in this world, due to her Nature -- her parasite into having its own will, and becoming uncontrollable. The leaders of the Parasitized had this girl, Vida Veisi, Separate Avisheh's parasites until they stopped at the knees. Her parasites, from then on, caused her no end of trouble, tripping her and others often. The Parasitized attempted to cut the parasites off, as they guessed the Separation might have allowed for this to work, but they simply grew back as parasites do.
Soon after, Avisheh was found by agents of the Nexus who had traveled to her world with the thought that the Destroyer may have been born among her people. Seeing an opportunity to get out of this stink town, she nominated herself as the Destroyer and was brought back to have her Nature scanned at the refugee center. It was found to be Disorder, nowhere near as powerful. However, she was still taken into the city, where she grew up in foster care from the age of 13.
It was at this age that she attempted to cut her legs off at the knee to finally remove the parasites and completely botched it, and ended up getting rushed to the hospital where the damage was found to be so severe that they had to be fully amputated. She then took to using a wheelchair for several years.
She attended high school in the Nexus and put herself through college on scholarships, as she was extremely bright and a fast learner. She took to medicine quickly, as it was something she was always interested in but could never pursue in her home world. She advanced quickly, going into extreme debt in the process, and became a young doctor in her twenties.
She started practice at the largest hospital in the Nexus, the Three Gods Hospital near the center of the city, but was soon fired for stealing medicine and practicing on the side for the homeless or otherwise poor, most often refugees from other worlds and/or involved with crime in the Nexus.
At this point, Avisheh was approached by an organized crime outfit that she had caught the attention of by working with so many criminals on the side and given an offer: continue to work for their needs as a doctor for free, and they would supply her with what she needed to have her own practice.
It was only barely what she required, but she managed, gaining enough assets to open a back alley clinic downtown that specialized in helping low or no income folks. The place was pretty beat up, but it was supplied enough to function, and she had enough to hire a single receptionist and buy two advanced prosthetic limbs. She didn't save enough for the physical therapy associated with it, so she just sort of... taught herself. To this day she uses a cane.
Soon after, she received word that Vida Veisi was brought into the Nexus as one of the three Gods, the new Separator. Still retaining some grudge against her, Avisheh paid her a visit simply to remind her that she existed. Avisheh never acted on her unspoken threats against the new Separator until, a few years later, a new Destroyer came into town as well.
June Summers, a girl from a peaceful version of a world not unlike ours, was found unwilling to take her place as something as horrifying as a God who destroyed worlds. Avisheh approached her and urged her to work against the other Gods from the inside, assuring her that the best way to ensure worlds were safe was to take her place as the Destroyer and seize that power. No small amount of intimidation and manipulation was used on Avisheh's part.
For Avisheh, things were finally falling into place. Her goal now was to ruin the Separator's life.
Personality:
Avisheh is an extremely intelligent person. That's simply a fact. She learns quickly, retains an incredible amount of information, and is highly adaptable. So when I tell you Avisheh is incredibly dumb, I want you to grasp my full meaning.
Avisheh is impulsive, reckless, and does not think more than two steps ahead once opportunity presents itself. She does not plan. She does not plot. She simply jumps at her first chance to get what she wants. She's incredibly skilled at manipulation, being surprisingly charismatic and intimidating in turn, and she's also incredibly driven, which is a scary combination. She will go to any lengths, whether it be for success in her field or revenge for a slight from years before. She is ambitious, hard working, and willing to do whatever it takes. She will lie, cheat, and steal.
She's also incredibly vindictive, as you might have guessed. She holds a particular grudge against the Separator, despite claiming that she doesn't blame the God for the loss of her legs. She totally blames the God for the loss of her legs. She is quick to throw blame, in fact, against anyone. She doesn't see herself as infallible or anything like that, and in fact is scarily self aware, but she also believes that people are at their nature incredibly awful. She uses this to justify herself.
Her moral code, though, does hold strong for her regard for medicine. She hates the corruption in the medical field and will work to help any type of patient with little or no reward in it for her. This is the only area where she can be incredibly selfless, as she knows what it's like to be without access to medicine. Her nihilism, however, extends as far as not caring what type of person she's helping, even knowing full well this person may go on to kill or harm others, because she believes that all people are corrupt in some way.
Avisheh is completely ready and willing to take advantage of others in an interpersonal sense, however. Upon seeing June distraught and confused, she instantly starts luring her into a trap of becoming her own puppet within the ranks of the Three, and all but blackmails her into working together. She knows she's being awful, but she does it anyway, because at the end I guess she gets some sick enjoyment out of messing with Vida Veisi? Yeah, she doesn't think that far ahead, like I said.
The doctor is also incredibly competitive to the point of backstabbing if she feels the need calls for it, and thus has very few friends other than those she doctors regularly. She is owed quite a few favors as a result, and is not above collecting for any reason. She could probably call a hit on someone due to professional connection if she really wanted to, despite the fact that she doesn't really "hang out" with anyone other than the receptionist.
Avisheh is extremely bad at being calm and relaxed, always working to some extent. She doesn't know how to relate to others, really, despite being skilled at manipulation, and thus is incredibly and utterly lonely. She'd rather laugh in people's faces than open up to them, and she would claim that suits her just fine, but she's got something of an abandonment complex and is secretly very attached to the few people she regularly interacts with. In fact, were Vida Veisi to completely ignore her, she'd be devastated, as she sees their "rivalry" or whatever it is as a form of connection to someone. And she is starved for connection.
It's sort of difficult to cultivate any sort of connection, however, because Avisheh has a singular need to be the best at what she does, and sees others' skill as a challenge to herself. She is extremely prideful and will stop nowhere short of the top, particularly in medicine but also in everything, really. If she's not good at something, she'll do what it takes to become good at it, or simply refuse to do it at all. Despite being outwardly confident, her confidence is dependent on her skill.
Despite her pride, Avisheh is extremely disorganized and messy, and cares little for her outward appearance. She's adapted to the style of the Nexus over the antiquated Farsian style of Tirazis in terms of dress, but her dress and the way she carries herself is more a means to an end than anything. She's utilitarian in a way, thriving on organized chaos and doing the bare minimum to keep appearances.
Lastly, Avisheh is surprisingly charismatic, using humor as a means to an end to get people to like her. Despite her dickish tendencies, people like someone who makes them laugh, and Avisheh has a biting wit and an undercurrent of silliness to her that comes out on occasion. She's the opposite of serious at the best of times, and uses humor as a way to keep people at arm's length without pushing too far.
Inventory:
➤ Two below-knee prosthetic legs. They're of Nexus make, black steel and plastic, and appear in the rough shape of legs and feet, but are definitely not simple in their shape. They have many parts and pieces in order to function roughly the same way as flesh legs would, with similar flexibility.
➤ One black cane, of simple make.
➤ One doctor's bag full of general tools and basic supplies for light surgical work and first aid.
Abilities:
DOCTOR
Dr. Razi herself is skilled with all things medical, surgical and otherwise. She's way better at amputations than she was at 13, I promise. She isn't trained in every single medical procedure, but she's a fast learner, and has had a lot of varied practice through the years.
DISORDER
Her Nature being Disorder, she has tendencies towards the chaotic and... disheveled. This doesn't necessarily always manifest as a superpower, but has the potential to in high-stress situations or with enough practice. It would appear as a probability manipulation power to just create chaos in any way possible. This can include random destruction, but not anywhere near on the scale or prevalence of one with the Nature of Destruction.
Flaws:
Avisheh's Nature, the very core of her being, is that of Disorder. If anyone is chaotic, it's her. She's a mess, causing problems both intentionally and unintentionally for everyone around her. She's impulsive and ambitious and will just do what she wants when she wants to, no matter who tries to get in her way.
She's utterly vindictive and willing to manipulate and intimidate others into half-baked revenge plots against people who don't necessarily deserve it. She seizes whatever opportunity presents itself to get ahead, and is completely willing to work with utterly reprehensible people if it means she can get her way. She is very much the type of person to put others down to bring herself up in a professional and societal sense. She's got a competitive streak a mile wide and can be downright egotistical.
Avisheh follows her own moral code that cares little for legality or the morality of others. She believes in her oath of medical ethics above all else, and disdains the corruption in the medical field of the Nexus that she blames for medicine being largely a luxury of those who can afford it. She doesn't care who a sick or injured person is or what they do, but she sees it as her duty to help all who need it. This extends to people she knows full well are killers, drug traffickers, kidnappers, etc. She's willing to break the law in order to help these people, in fact.
